In 1940, the British government merged the country's two main airlines - Imperial Airways and British Airways - into a single flag carrier, the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). The airline, long identified by its "speedbird" logo and callsign, operated until 1971, when another merger created the modern British Airways. This poster depicts a BOAC de Havilland Albatross mail/passenger aircraft at Croydon Aerodrome, South London.
